Raising Connected Teens in a Disconnected World

An Evening of Conversation

Christopher Pepper & Ruth Whippman

Monday, April 14, 2025 - 6:00 - 8:30 p.m.

Join us for an insightful conversation on teen wellness with Christopher Pepper, health advocate, writer, and award-winning teacher and Ruth Whippman, British journalist and essayist.

Teens today face unprecedented challenges—from skyrocketing anxiety and social media pressures to academic stress and identity struggles. The rapid pace of modern life, combined with the complexities of digital culture, has left many young people feeling overwhelmed and disconnected. As parents and guardians, how can we better understand these issues and support our teens in navigating them?

Our speakers will unpack these challenges, explore practical strategies, and offer guidance on fostering resilience and well-being in today’s teens. Don’t miss this opportunity to gain valuable insights and connect with other parents and caregivers committed to helping the next generation thrive, while supporting the Berkeley High Development Group.

Tickets are $150 each and include delicious food, drinks donated by local businesses, entertainment by members of the Berkeley High Jazz Band, and a thought-provoking conversation to support your teens!

This event will be at Gather Kitchen in Downtown Berkeley and proceeds will go to benefit Berkeley High School, Berkeley Independent Studies (9-12) and Berkeley Technology Academy. .

The Berkeley High School Development Group (BHSDG) is an independent nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation founded in 1991 by a group of parent volunteers to ensure the quality and excellence of Berkeley High School.

Our mission is to support and strengthen the educational experience of all Berkeley High School students, including students at Berkeley Technology Academy and Berkeley Independent Studies (9-12). BHSDG partners with the BHS administration, the Berkeley Athletic Fund, the Berkeley Public Schools Fund, and leadership from BHS small learning communities and departments to target funds efficiently.

In 2023-24, BHSDG managed almost $500,000 in donations and other revenue. With these funds, BHSDG was able to make grants to support teachers and students across the entire school community. Areas of focus included community-building, professional development, intervention, technology, and educational enrichment opportunities.

Our ability to fund essential programs, materials, and training depends on your donations. We are grateful for supporters like you who have already given this year and hope that you’ll consider an additional contribution.
